The ISU Citizen Police Academy is a great opportunity to learn more about law enforcement and the police department here at Iowa State. During the academy, participants will take part in a variety of activities that will give a glimpse of life on the beat. Some activities include driving a police car, executing a search warrant, learning defensive tactics, firearms training, TASER training, domestic violence issues, and much more (see schedule). There is no charge for this class. Ames citizens and ISU faculty, staff, and students are to eligible to participate. Classes will begin on Thursday, February 12th, and will meet on subsequent Thursday evenings from 6:00-9:00 PM for 8 weeks. (Participants must be able to attend 7 of the 8 classes).
Attending the Citizen Police Academy in NO WAY WHATSOEVER certifies ANY participant in ANY type of police or law enforcement subject.
Classes are limited to 15 participants. You will be notified by e-mail and/or telephone if your application has been selected. Since we have a limited number of seats, we are asking that each applicant be able to attend most sessions.
If you have any questions about the Citizen Police Academy, please contact Community Outreach Officer Anthony Greiter at (515) 294-3009 or e-mail agreiter [at] iastate.edu.
