The Iowa State University Police Department is the official law enforcement authority for the university. More than 30 fully certified, sworn police officers and dispatchers provide a variety of services to the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including:
- General patrol
- Traffic enforcement

- Victim / Witness services
Trained full and part-time employees supplement agency operations. Pursuant to state statutes, Iowa State University police officers possess full powers to detain, investigate, and arrest. Jurisdictional authority is state-wide in matters involving Iowa State University. Mutual aid agreements with other law enforcement agencies may result in the extension of enforcement authority beyond university boundaries.
The ISU Police Department is a professional, nationally recognized police agency. Iowa State University police officers continue to receive the same training and certification as officers at police units throughout the state. Our primary goal is to provide the highest level of safety.
Start by Believing is a public awareness campaign designed by End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) to change the way we as a society respond to rape and sexual assault in our communities. The ISU Police Department has long been committed to this philosophy.
Those who survive the loss of a family member, a stolen vehicle, or a severe medical diagnosis are surrounded by friends and loved ones offering their support. They aren't blamed for the actions of others.
The same should be true for survivors of sexual violence. But all too often, those who have the courage to tell someone what happened are blamed for bringing it on themselves. This needs to change!
